ASSISTED LIVING POLICY AND PROCEDURE MANUALS AND STAFF TRAINING - GEORGIA, PENNSYLVANIA AND FLORIDA
Compliance is not difficult, but most Personal Care Homes and Assisted Living Communities struggle with it. The cause is not difficult to diagnose...they do an inadequate job of training.
We work in a regulated industry but so do Banks, Insurance Companies, Brokerages, Securities Exchanges, Fiduciaries, Food Processors, Airlines, and the list is endless. These industries argue that their regulations are no more than constraints placed upon them by the government, causing them to incur unnecessary compliance costs with no benefit to their customers. We, on the other hand, are subject our own industries regulations, but the most successful ALC's argue that the regulations we have do benefit their customers [residents] and that apart from the initial training cost, actually reduce their operating costs. So, who's right? I think the answer is both.
In my years as a surveyor, I would on frequently survey an ALC, finding nothing but very satisfied residents and resident families, caregivers who loved what they do and truly cared about the residents and the residents cared about them. Unfortunately, these ALC's were in the minority. Nonetheless, over the years, I learned the reasons for their continued success and I would like to share them with you.
When I authored the "Proven Path Policy and Procedure Manual" I wanted it to include not only P&P's but also ideas and insights that the best ALC's had put in place.
I wanted this manual to come to life so I published it in both hard and digital formats, but of course, you still had to read it. But, I did put much of the content into a a Power Point presentation that captivated my audience.
The Proven Path training class brings to life the policies and procedures, but it also helps to develop a culture of care and this is when you will begin to see similar results that the elite ALC's enjoy and whom I spoke about.
